Painted Desert, Arizona
The Painted Desert is part of the Petrified Forest National Park.
I stopped at the vistas over the desert in the morning and did a several hour hike into the desert late
in the afternoon (carrying plenty of water with me).
The colors are phenomenal, but very subtle (much better for real than in pictures).
I wish I had spent at least another day hiking there.
Within the desert are areas of petrified trees, too.
I visited the park the weekend prior to a conference
(HPC Users Group) in Albuquerque.
I also visited
El Morro and El MalPais National Monuments
in New Mexico on this trip.

This handsome fellow posed briefly on the rock as I was hiking.
