Dr. Newby is Director of the Arctic Region Supercomputing Center (ARSC), and a research faculty member of the University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF). Newby was appointed director in June 2011, and previously was ARSC's Chief Scientist since March 2005. His research interests include next-generation technologies for high performance computing, modeling for climate and weather, text retrieval and data mining, grid computing, and electronic texts.
